A protected place to wonder

Safety comes before every adventure.

Whispering Wood is designed to help children close the screen, take a trusted grown-up's hand and explore the real world together - without asking a child to share their own world with us.

♡

For every little Treasure Hunter

This website will never ask you to tell us who you are.

You can read, choose pictures, discover creatures and download activities with your grown-up. You never need to send anything back.

  • Your name or birthday
  • Your email address
  • Where you live or where you found something
  • A photograph of you, your family or your discoveries
  • A message, drawing or file to upload
If anything online makes you unsure, stop and show your grown-up.

For parents, carers and Adult Adventurers

Protection is built into what the website does not contain.

01

No child accounts

Children cannot register, sign in, create a profile, enter a name or build a public identity.

02

No uploads or galleries

The site provides no way to submit photographs, drawings, files, messages or recordings.

03

No location features

We do not ask children to identify a beach, woodland, school, home or the place where a discovery was made.

04

No social contact

There are no comments, chat rooms, public profiles, direct messages, friend lists or links for children to contact strangers.

05

No scores or endless play

There are no streaks, leaderboards, rewards, countdowns or designs intended to keep children on the screen.

06

Grown-ups stay part of the journey

Activities consistently invite a trusted grown-up to read, download, print and explore alongside the child.

Privacy notice

Our data promise

Website operator: Diane Dawson, author and publisher of The Whispering Wood Collection.

Whispering Wood does not ask children for personal information and provides no forms through which they can submit it. The website has no child accounts, advertising, analytics, behavioural profiling, personalised recommendations, geolocation features, marketing trackers or third-party social tools.

The Field Journal is a direct download. Anything drawn or written remains on paper or on the family's own device and is never sent back to this website. We do not sell or share children's information.

A separate email address is provided for grown-up book and website enquiries. Adult correspondents choose what to include; their email address and message are used only to read and answer the enquiry and are not sold or used for advertising. Grown-ups are expressly asked not to send children's personal information, photographs or attachments.

The independent hosting provider may process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the website, such as an internet address, browser information, request time and security logs. This website does not use that information to identify, profile or contact children. The provider's identity, retention period and the operator's privacy contact will be inserted here when the permanent domain and hosting account are confirmed.

Our approach puts a child's best interests first, applies high privacy by default and avoids collecting information that the stories and activities do not need. If this website ever changes to collect information, this notice and the safety review must be updated before that change goes live.

Accessibility

More than one way to discover

Whispering Wood is designed towards the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard. We do not yet claim formal conformance because the public domain must receive a final keyboard, screen-reader, contrast, zoom and mobile review after hosting.

  • Meaningful pictures have text descriptions.
  • Links and navigation can be reached using a keyboard.
  • Important information is presented as readable webpage text rather than only inside illustrations.
  • Links and buttons have visible focus styles and comfortably sized selection areas.
  • Colour is supported by words and pictures, so colour alone does not carry meaning.
  • The layout adapts for mobile screens, and reduced-motion preferences are respected.
  • No audio or video starts automatically.

Any limitation found after launch will be recorded here with a planned correction. A grown-up may also print the Field Journal for an offline activity.

Our continuing safety promise

Safety remains part of every update.

New pages, outward links and downloads must be checked before publication. Features that ask children to register, upload, share their location or contact strangers will not be added without a new child-safety and privacy assessment.
